Thumbs down to Kris Kutlery Katana

(pittsfield,mass usa)

I bought a kris cutlery 29inch folded katana for $157 plus $20 shipping, and when I got it the tang was banging around in the tsuka so I sent it back! Then about a week later I received a replacement and the tsuka was good but the finish sucks to put it plainly! It's all over the place, dull on most and shiny on some, but it's just very uneven. I guess I could of sent it back again but I didn't feel like waiting again.

They are decent priced swords, but the problems with them are not worth it! There are other websites that have folded katanas for the same price and I bet the polish is alot better! I wish I never bought the damn thing! I think he is selling factory seconds and does not tell you that they are! He is just out to make a buck and could care less if you get a piece of crap sword!

P.S. I bought a cheness kaze through your site and I love it !!!

Kris Cutlery do a fine sword
by: Wilson

I had a KC takeda shingen - one of thier higher end swords and I can tell you it was fantastic

since that KC V hanwei SFMO review in 1999 , KC have had a great rep within the sword community , no frills , no bells n whistles - just a tougher than a coffin nail 5160 blade in a 'does the job ' mounting.

I wonder if the the OP was just trying to big up his Kaze - if so he didnt need to use KC as a "poor by comparison" tale , cheness has its own rep for toughness thats well attested to.

thanks

by: Paul Southren

At the time that they first came out, I would say that these swords would have been exceptional for the price.

But these days, it's possible to do a lot better...

Greetings Paul,
In reference to the above "quote..... what Would be Your advice?

Thanks,
Edward Stites

Hello??
by: Edward Stites

(With a Gentle Grin.....)
I offered to take the burden of the poor quality Kris Cutlery Katana off of the Gentlemans' hand, but as All can see......Silence!!
:)

The Blade must not have been Quite that bad....
Hence no reply...no answer or "Sure, let me get rid of this.." Hmmm... See prior reviews for the description of the Kris Cutlery product....

After Much research on the type of steel used in the Kris Cutlery Line of products AND personal experience with many different types of steel I Still fail to see where the Kris Cutlery line of blades is SO poor....
Just my experience I guess.

PS: Maybe my experience and exposure to various Swords has been limited...
Windlass Steelcrafts, Cold Steel, Himalayan Imports (5160 Steel used ONLY, )US Army Officers Sword Circa 1905 (German Manf.), Hanwei, Paul Chen, WW2 Gunto, and in The World of Knives: Browning ATS-34/Titanium, Gerber ATS-34, Gerber 154CM, CRKT (multiple steel types) Hand-Made Japanese Knives from Seki City (http://www.japaneseknifedirect.com/AboutSeki.html)

Kris Cutlery 29 Katana II
by: Edward Stites

After seeing the above notes I am quite puzzled.
My 29 Katana II is totally the Opposite of the above.... Well finished, nicely balanced, Excellent fittings, VERY Sharp... A Superb deal IMHO.
Mine was purchased in the later part of 2008, and for a Katana made from 5160 Steel that looks and feels Great. I must assume that Kris Cutlery has made Great progress with their Katanas!!

Folded for the same price...
by: Gregg

I would be terrified of a "folded" sword that comes in at $157.

Terrified it would shatter during Kata...
