SWORD SHOPS

by kyle foster
(Hesperia, CA)

You know, I'd love to see more sword shops around. I gotta drive 63 miles to the nearest sword shops and it's just way to expensive with california gas prices. I really think they should build more sword shops.

sword shops
by: Brian M

I agree with you all. The big problem in my town is that the couple of sword/knife shops will only sell retail. I asked if they were negotiable and they said no! I understand, but they lose - becuase I saved $100 purchasing my Paul Chen Iaito on line. I would much rather have paid a little more for the sword in my hand rather than wait for it at my doorstep and know that I am getting what I am looking at. But this is a GREAT website and guide and I hope it finds its way to more people before they purchase their "first" sword! ;-) (like you can eat just one potato chip, right?)

Wall Hangers
by: Anonymous

Without fail, every sword shop I have been in is studded heavy, slow, disproportinate stainless wall hangers. I tend to stick with craft armorers like Albion or Del Tin. I refuse to buy a sword that does not have a peened on, shouldered pommel. Bolted swords have a nasty habit of quickly turning into loose fitting clangers.

Economics
by: Anonymous

It would be wonderful to find a plentiful aray of sword shops throughout cities all over this great land. Unfortunately, it is a simple matter of economics. The fact is that sword collectors are a very small, niche market. How many other sword lovers have you personally met, I mean those who really spend money on nice swords, not just kids who go into cutlery shops and gawk at the swords on the wall saying "COOOOOL!". We are a very small number. And, unless you are selling very high ticket items purchased by the wealthy, selling niche items is a very hard way to prosper in business. With the availability of swords online, which carries very little overhead to online retailers, coupled with the limited market means that sword retailers can hardly make a living with the overhead and costs involved with a "shop". Now days, you find swords in a touch, feel & buy environment most commonly in cutlery shops that do much more volume with standard sporting knives, pocket knives and kitchen cutlery, or in gun shops. For most retailers, swords are a "side line" that just brings in a little extra volume. If you want to find the greatest selction and values, stick to the internet. Downside....you can't hold it in your hand before you buy it. Sucks, but that's just the way our commercial, internet adicted world is.

In time...
by: Paul Southren

In time it is my plan to have a sword shop on every street corner, that way when the zombies finally come - people will be able to arm themselves appropriately. ;-)
