Musashi Wind and Tanto

I own the Musashi Wind katana as well as one of their Asuka tanto bought directly from www.musashiswords.com. Overall the fit and finish are beautiful and they leave their competition in the dust in that department. However, they do have their problems like any other production sword.

The Wind Katana was very nice but the kashira (butt cap) fell off too easily. I brushed the end against my leg and it fell off.

The tanto came with a badly cracked tsuka core. I had to split the tsuka open and glue everything back together. I wasn't too impressed with that.

Both of the kissaki tips bent with thrusting into the cardboard boxes they came in.

Still with those problems, they make decent swords for the price. Would I buy from them again? I would buy the products priced under $200, but above that point there are other companies who can offer better products.

Also some clarification about the Chris Zhou line. They are not completely made at his forge. The blades are outsourced then the polishing and fittings are done at Chris Zhou's forge. If the blades were done in house you can expect the price would probably double or triple.

Excellent Post!

Always refreshing to hear 'the other side' of the story. It does indeed sound like you got a couple of lemons, and it does happen. Indeed, they have acknowleged this and I suspect that the reason why is because demand became so large for their products that they rushed the last shipment out... (though I do not have 100% confirmation on this).

Quick question though - where did you buy them from? Both Musashi and Trueswords are well known for taking care of customer problems with these lines if they arise, did you get it sorted with them at all?
