Excercise care when cleaning!

Paul Chen Practical Katana

Paul Chen Practical Katana

I purchased a Paul Chen Practical Katana as my first functional sword. After alot of research I chose this sword for its reputation and the reviews on SBG.

One evening I decided to clean and oil the blade. Using silvo( no this does not harm the blade, it isn't that corrosive ) to clean and polish the blade and fittings I then oiled the blade using 3 in 1 oil. I used this many times before and never had any trouble until this particular evening.
After I oiled the blade on one side I prepared to turn it over to repeat the process.

I became a little distracted and the edge of the blade slid across the tips of my two middle fingers narrowly missing the outside fingers. I had always wondered how sharp the blade was because I've never had the opurtunity to cut anything with it. I found out how sharp it was the hard way, the blade let me with two very deep cuts and the blade had only grazed my fingers. This sword could do some serious damage if handled improperly.

So for those of you who were wondering how sharp the PK is let me tell you from personal experience it is very sharp and should be handled with the utmost care and respect.

Ow!

Yeah, I know exactly where you are coming from. That post made me wince...!

I hope people will take heed of this, cleaning and oiling really needs 100% concentration and probably 90% of all sword injuries occur when running fingers close to the edges...

Yikes. Be careful out there people!
