Dangerous Practical Scottish basket hilt

by Dave MacKenzie
(Denver, CO)

Let this serve as a warning. I purchased 2 Practical Scottish Basket hilts from Kult of Athena. One came with a loose and improperly fitted blade and the other seemed ok.. After only 2 hits, one blade snapped off at the hilt and the other fell completely apart. I have many years in the sword live combat arena and this was at the least shocking, at the most potentially deadly. The broken blade barely missed hitting a spectator in the head.

In my estimation they are NOT for any use other than wall hanging.
I contacted Kult of Athena and after a couple of weeks of trying to get an answer the told me they would contact the manufacturer and get back to me with instructions. I have never heard from them again and further emails went unanswered.

So, in closing, I caution everyone on purchasing the Practical Scottish Basket hilts and also of purchasing from Kult of Athena.

Yours in Swords,

Mac
