Cold steel, warrior/imperial series katana...

by Sal
(United States )

...This will be my last post for now, seeing as this is the last sword I know anything about. But as many know, the cold steel katana handles like a....Well....a hunk of steel, which explains why it has absolutely no grace.

Cold steel makes great knives and strong steel weapons, but In my opinion, the swords lack any real accuracy in terms of geometry, handling, fittings, weight, balance and so on. So, why do people buy these swords?

They (If found under certain conditions, i.e true swords, ebay, etc.) are decently priced for the strength of the blade, they have amazing sharpness, and they can handle large targets. Sadly, it requires much strength to muster the cold steel katana. It glistens in the sun, and shines out above MANY of the Sub-US$300 dollar mark, which is why I myself considered one when I was to purchase my first shinken.

I reconsidered, did my homework, and got another sword. I am not bashing cold steel or anything, it is just the duty of a person with experiences with said weapon. Even when watching the cold steel DVD "sword proof" you can tell the people handling the weapons are struggling, or so it seems. As I had stated earlier, it takes a LOT of strength to use one of the cold steel swords.

I even have a friend whom of which has this sword, he cannot use it without losing balance, and neither can his sensei! I even spoke to a registered instructor who had problems with the swords. When an instructor has trouble with it, you know something bad is amidst. In the DVD, you can also see that many of the cuts from these swords is choppy, not entirely clean, and even the big old warrior and imperial katana has a tough time going through tatami. It makes me kind of sad to see it, if cold steel balanced there swords properly, I would have ended up getting one.

I hope you understand that I wrote the things I did because, it is my duty to tell the truth, not sugar coated. I, along with many people I know, and people that they know (A perpetual loop of complainers and supporters alike :D) have problems with this sword, and at the same time adore it for some of its traits, such as sharpness. For some, it is a win, win, or a lose, lose situation.

Thanks you for reading, I will hopefully have another post within a month or two.

Thanks again

Sal

The painful truth
by: Anonymous

I am giving you only 4 stars because it is true, but harsh, so I bear no ill will, I just think that 4 stars is fair. But you are right, I have a cold steel ti-lite and a cold steel warrior series, the knife handles like a dream, whereas the sword is not as enjoyable as the knife.
