Cold steel Hand and a Half sword.

by Ryan
(Langley, BC, Canada)

This blade was a beast of a cutter. no resistance on my strikes, cutting light to medium targets, but then I noticed the pommel wobbling.

I stopped to cast a puzzled gaze at my friend and it fell off. Cold steel replaced the sword but I had to pay shipping both ways. The new one does not handle like the old one (the new one has poor balance) and the pommel looks slightly off line with the handle. It also makes a 'clink' noise when you tap the pommel with your hand.

In my experience cold steel blades maintain their edge really well, they are razor sharp and they (depending on the model) have a well done mirror polish. But, I would recommend staying away from their 'problem swords' until or unless they make a design change.

Also of note, their swords are definitely modernised versions of ancient weapons. Eg. mine looks like the 2007 version of a long sword, not a reproduction of a 16th century long sword.

BASTARD SWORD POMMEL
by: Anonymous

I bought the hand&a half in a shop in Oslo, Norway, and I began chopping down a tree with it when the pommel felt off at the 7th or 8th stroke.
I know you should never chop down trees with swords, but in spite of this the edge held up just fine,
and when I returned it to the shop they gave my money back which I then used to buy the Cold steel Chisa Katana.
I recommend to stay away from this model due its structural problems with the pommel.

Definitely one of their 'problem' swords
by: Paul Southren

Yeah, I haven't really heard too many positives about this particular model. It has to date almost always ended up with the same scenario, or blade failure at the shoulder....

However, I heard from Lynn Thompson that they are aware of these problems and are addressing them in their next production run, so hopefully feedback like this will help the line to continue to evolve.

I'll be keeping folk posted about these new ones as soon as the information comes to hand.
