Caladbolg, Irish Two-handed sword

Sword with Sheath (coke can to show its size)

This was my first "true sword" I've bought till then all I've used was 18 and 22 inch long Machete's which are essentially a utility cutlass. I wanted a good quality and historically accurate Irish sword to display with my family crest. Searched all over the net and came across this sword.

It seem to meet my need and the price was vary good $89 for the sword and $16 for shipping for a $105 total. Got it the next week, I was vary pleased with how it was packed. My first impression of it was WOW. It is a vary intimidating piece of steel at 52 inches long it is massive.

Blade is 42 inches long highly polished with 3 fullers and is well made. Being hand forged it has some blemishes on it and is not perfectly strait. Sheath is vary nice wood with chromed steel accents and wrapped in black imitation leather. The Handle,Irish ring prommel and Gard are also vary good quality.

I have swung this around a few times is is fairly well balanced for a large sword like this but it is not tempered and not offered in a tempered version yet but if it will be I be the first to get one. All in all I have had a vary positive experience with this company and will be buying their tempered Crusader sword soon. When I get that I'll try to post a review on it.

Being that it is St.Patrick's day today I thought I would post an update to this now having owned it for about a year. This thing has held up great, I use it regularly to practice some longsword techniques I've picked up. The blade has remained stunning even with vary little maintenance but I have to mention that the scabbard has fell apart, but this this is just way to big to use it anyway so no love lost, But hear is what I'm ecstatic about. Last week I figured just for the hell of it I would sharpen the tip. Being a untempered sword I figured It wouldn't take a good edge. But not only did it take a sharp edge but it has retained it! so I sharpened it down both sides for about 12in. It is paper cutting sharp now and has even chopped big holes in 2 litter bottles. It would not cut them in half but these big tow handers are not really good at the cut anyway. But it thrusts excellently and is extremely deadly. It went rite threw 1/4 ply-wood And this is Strongblades untempered version! Witch leads me to believe that there is sum kind of temper to it because I have never seen "raw" steel perform like this. Needless to say I will be a life long customer now. If only they would get rid of that stupid nickel finnish on their guards and pommels it would be perfect.
